February 2023 Magic Seeds
We are super excited to introduce you to this month's Magic Seeds from La Chumeca in the Tarrazú region of Costa Rica. This is a farm Tony has a long history with and we're so happy to be able to share it with you.
La Chumeca is a coffee mill owned by Martín Ureña. His brother Edgar has his own mill right next door. Together they share their innovative quick floating system, which enables them to produce some of the most carefully prepared and vibrant cherry dried coffee we have ever interacted with.

This cherry dried lot is the product of that very innovation. It is made up of the catuai and caturra varieties grown on Finca Trinidad. We saw this system for ourselves, right after they developed it, when we visited the family for the second time, six years ago. We had first meet them nearly a decade ago through their brother Cesar.
Flavor Description:
La Chumeca initially starts off with tropical fruit and berry flavors, calling to mind mango, blackberry, passionfruit and mangosteen. As it cools it opens up into a soft herbal sweetness that reminds us of agave nectar and sugar cane juice. The cup continues to develop, gaining more clarity around the fruit flavors with watermelon hard candy becoming a stand out flavor.

Over these ten years the family has each grown their operations. La Chumeca itself now operates 50 drying tables; adding more each year. Their success is a result hard work producing amazing quality. It's a honor to get to share their great coffee with you after all these years.
